How to Set the Air Channel for Nextel

Nextel was founded in 1987 as Fleet Call. The name of the company was changed to Nextel in 1993, and in 1996 the company introduced Motorola iDEN technology to its network. The new technology allowed Nextel phones to combine digital cellular service, texting and 2 way radio. The two-way radio, called Direct Talk, uses 10 channels with 15 codes per channel, which you can set, and broadcasts in the 900 MHz band. The phones also have Direct Connect, which uses the cellular network for push-to-talk radio communications. Nextel merged with Sprint in 2005.
1 Select “DirecTalk” from the phone’s main menu. Select “Go to DirecTalk.” “DT Ready” displays on the screen with the channel and code you are using.
2 Press the button on the phone under “Edit.” Scroll down to “Channel.” Press the button under “Edit” and select a channel. Press the button under “Back” on the screen. You return to the “Direct Talk Idle” screen.
3 Press the button under “Edit.” Scroll down to “Code.” Press the button under “Edit” and select a code. Press the button under “Back” on-screen. You return to the “Direct Talk Idle” screen.
4 Press the “Menu” button. Select “DT Options.” Select “Exit DirecTalk” to return your phone to normal cellular communication.
