How to Troubleshoot a Motorola XTS 2500

Although cell phones are the preferred method of wireless communication, among short networks 2 way radios are still used extensively. The Motorola XTS 2500 is a long-range radio suitable for use in a wide-range environment. If you are having some difficulties with your XTS 2500, there are some basic troubleshooting steps you can take to help alleviate whatever is causing your radio to malfunction.
1 Clean your speaker. If the sound is muffled or garbled, the first thing you can do is clean your speaker to see if the sound is being blocked by dirt or a foreign irritant. To clean the speaker, mix one teaspoon of dishwashing liquid with a gallon of water, and then use a scouring brush to clean the speaker with the liquid.
2 Tighten your antenna. The XTS 2500 features a removable antenna, which can come loose after prolonged use. Rotate the antenna to make sure it is firmly screwed in place.
3 Increase transmitting distance. If you are having trouble sending or receiving a signal, change the power level to “High” to increase transmitting distance.
4 Remove unauthorized batteries. The Motorola XTS 2500 is designed to work only with Motorola batteries, and if you are using another brand, the radio may stop working or overheat. If you notice any other strange behavior, remove the third-party battery and replace it with an official Motorola battery.
