How to Take a Motorola Radio Apart

You must use caution when taking apart a Motorola 2 way communication radio, to avoid damaging any of the parts inside or ruining the outer casing. The process to disassemble a 2 way radio is the same for most Motorola radio models. If you decide to take out the internal components of the radio, use sticky notes to label each part as you remove it.
1 Turn the top knob to the “Off” position, or press the “Power” button to power off the device. Turn the radio face-down and place it on a flat surface.
2 Use a screwdriver to remove the small screws holding the radio’s back casing to the front. You may need to remove two, three or four screws depending upon the model.
3 Pull the back casing upward and away from the radio. Set it aside on a table or workbench. Review the parts you see inside. Create a diagram of the arrangement of parts on a sticky note.
4 Remove the first accessible part you see. The specific part will vary depending upon the model of Motorola radio. As you pull it out, set aside in a clean, dust-free area. Write the number “1″ on a sticky note and attach the note to the part. Continue removing parts as necessary, labeling each one with the next successive number on a sticky note.
